Most of the cast of Twelve Years a Slave, directed by Steve McQueen, projected for U.S. release in Summer/Fall of this year.

You can read the book for free, here.  It’s based on the true story of a free black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the south.

I know most of the tumblr people are excited about the presence of Fassbender and Cumberbatch, but I’m most happy to see a talented black director taking the helm of a serious movie about slavery, starring a handsome talented actor who should be a lot bigger than he is, Chitwetel Ejiofor.

Omg. I was randomly reading Solomon’s narrative the other day… I had no idea they were making a film about it! That’s really awesome. Although, if you’re looking for a film that doesn’t have a White savior, this won’t be the one.

Still, there should be more films based off of slave narratives.

I love UNC’s collection.. They have hundreds of them available online to read.
